The Anglican Dean of the Napier Cathedral has started legal action after being dumped by the church for having an affair 25 years ago.
Michael Godfrey was stood down from the Anglican Church in May this year for breaching the church canons.
He said he has a lawyer and will be appealing the judgement which saw him kicked out of the Anglican Church after being a priest for 27 years.
He claims he confessed to having an affair in 1991 with an 18 year old woman in Australia, however the church denies he ever admitted to it.
When asked for comment, a spokesman for the Anglican Church says it has absolutely no desire for this to be in the public domain.
