Police crack down on risky road behaviour

Motorists stopped by Police this summer can expect to be breath tested, no matter the time of day.

From today, anyone caught driving more than four kilometres above the speed limit will face a fine.

It's part of a road safety campaign that also includes more highly visible patrols and a crack down on risky behaviour.

National road policing manager Superintendent Steve Greally said fewer drivers are being caught with high blood alcohol since stricter blood alcohol limits were introduced year and Police want to keep this up and avoid fatalities on the road.

He wants all families to remember their summer for the good times, rather than the grief of a fatal crash.

Last summer's road toll was one of the lowest on record.
