Anyone planning a boozy Labour weekend is being told to find an alternate way home. The breath alcohol limit for drivers drops from 400 micrograms per litre to 250, from the start of December. But assistant commissioner Dave Cliff says drivers need to be exercising restraint now - especially over the long weekend."Drink driving is still resulting in about 30 percent of our deaths on New Zealand roads, there are still around 20,000 people convicted of drink driving every year."Dave Cliff says police are taking a zero-tolerance approach to drink driving and speeding this weekend.Meanwhile, a lower tolerance of four kilometres an hour over the speed limit will be enforced until Tuesday morning.Cliff says driving just a few kilometres an hour over the speed limit can change the outcome of even the smallest accident."If everyone's doing it, it means it takes longer for people to stop, crashes have worse outcomes, people are more seriously injured."One person was killed on the roads over Labour weekend last year.
