Hopes from the Pike River families that a full inspection of the mine could take place sooner, rather than later.

Three mining and rescue experts are putting together a proposal to use technology to re-enter the mine, and say a full inspection could be finished by July.

It comes after Bill English halted work to seal the mine, and offered the families a chance to use drones, drills and cameras to inspect the mine.

That's led to a proposal written by mining experts Dr David Creedy and Bob Stevenson, and mines rescue expert Brian Robinson.

Families spokesman Bernie Monk said work to inspect the mine could start as early as this month.

He said they have enough information to show that the drift can be re-entered by foot, but further information will only strengthen that case.

Monk said it has been a speedy process.

He said their experts have had the information but have never been asked for it, so it hasn't taken long for things to get up to speed.
