Updated 8.06pm: A person has died after being hit by a train at a suburban Auckland railway station.

Emergency services are at the scene, at the Morningside Station level crossing.

Trains are being replaced by buses between Kingsland and New Lynn.

Morningside Drive is also closed to vehicles and pedestrians, between McDonald Street and New North Road.

Police say the closures will be in place for around three hours at this stage.
