Overstayer numbers are at a record low.
A new report released by Immigration Minister Michael Woodhouse puts the number of overstayers at 12,162.
That's a decrease of around a thousand on the previous estimate taken in September last year.
It puts overstayer numbers at the lowest level since 2000.
The estimated rate of overstaying in New Zealand is small by international standards, at around four in 10,000.
