Only around half the pupils at Levin's Waiopehu College will be allowed back at school today following last week's measles outbreak.

The school was closed on Friday after a student contracted the virus.

Only those who can provide proof of vaccination will be allowed in today.

The school has a roll of 650 and 85 staff.

Principal Mark Robinson said around 320 students and 65 staff can confirm they've been a vaccinated at this stage.

"It's really important that only children who have got clearance to come to school, come to school. Measles is an incredibly contagious infection."

Mr Robinson said lessons are carrying on, and they have a few strategies to makes sure no one misses out.

"Teachers are already beginning to email their students. Some teachers will be using things like Facetime or Skype to deliver lessons via the web. Teachers are also using GoogleDocs."
