A group representing New Zealand's Muslim community has condemned the actions of terrorist behind a savage rampage in the heart of London.

Seven people were killed and nearly 50 injured in the attack in which a van was driven into pedestrians on London Bridge before three assailants walked to Borough Markets, stabbing innocents and shouting "This is for Allah" as they went.

All three assailants were shot dead by police. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.

President of the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand, Hazim Arafeh says the Muslim world right now is in direct war with these groups.

"We continue to condemn, and we continue to disassociate ourselves from this ideology, from the followers of this ideology and whatever they do," Arafeh said.

"Terrorism has got no religion. They claim to do this in the name of Islam but we continue to say that these are not Muslims and they don't have a state."

Hazim Arafeh also expressed his best wishes to the family of Christchurch man Oliver Dowling who was stabbed in the face, neck and stomach in the attack while enjoying dinner with his girlfriend.

"I feel for their pain," he said. "I hate to see this happening to anyone, let alone a fellow New Zealander."

"We feel for their suffering, and we wish this fellow New Zealander a quick and easy recovery."

Dowling's sister Freddy posted on social media on Sunday, thanking the efforts of the staff at the University of London Hospital, where her brother went through a four-hour surgery.

She said he will hopefully be able to go home in a few days' time and fully recover.
