Christchurch Central MP Nicky Wagner said more building companies will go bust before the end of the year as the market changes.
Over 60 companies connected to construction in this city have gone into liquidation this year.
Wagner said new companies are working hard to expand but they're overestimating demand.
"Some of us who are a bit longer in the tooth, are watching all these brand new Hilux's going on the road, knowing that their new companies often buying things on tick can catch up with you in the end."
The National MP said there is hope in the fact that a lot of building companies are still needed in Auckland, and there are many mentors and support services available.
