A passenger killed when a car rolled down a bank in Hawke's Bay has been identified by police.
Police say 65-year-old Waipukurau man Harry Nepe-Apatu died at the scene of the crash on Pourerere Road about 5.45am on Sunday.
The driver suffered minor injuries.
His family is gathering for his tangi.
The toll for the holiday period - which started on Friday and will end on January 3 - currently stands at seven.
During the 2016-17 Christmas period there were 19 deaths on roads.
