A body that was found in a Rotorua stream has been identified as a 43-year-old man who moved to the city last year.

He was Richard Herekiuha.

His body was found a little before midday on Tuesday, but he was last seen a week earlier at his home in Fordlands.

Herekiuha's black mountain bike that he rode into town every day and his helmet have also been found.

Police won't speculate on the circumstances surrounding his death, or on whether anything untoward led to him being found in the Otamatea stream.
