The longest serving mayor in New Zealand history has died.
Former Southland Mayor Frana Cardno had been battling bile duct cancer since June last year.
She passed away in her Te Anau home yesterday
Ms Cardno was awarded a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to local government.
She served as mayor for 21-years until she retired in 2013.
