Flammable cladding of the sort used on the London high rise isn't being used in buildings in this country.

Housing and Construction Minister Nick Smith said it was outlawed in January following similar fires in Melbourne and Dubai.

Dr Smith added that a further tightening of building regulations was announced last month around the type of material used in buildings and in terms of access to water for fire fighting.

He said that access to buildings for firefighters and escape routes for residents have also been tightened.
