Two foreign students remain in hospital with life threatening injuries after a crash between a car and campervan in Southland yesterday.
One person was trapped inside the wreckage for more than an hour when the vehicles collided at the intersection of State Highways 6 and 97, near Lumsden.
There were two adults and and two children, believed to be German, in the campervan.
In the station wagon: two Southern Institute of Technology students and another passenger.
The two students, believed to be Chinese nationals, are still in Dunedin Hospital with critical injuries.
The holiday road death toll currently stands at one after a fatal crash in the Bay of Plenty yesterday.
