New Zealand timber could soon be more attractive to the world market.
The New Zealand Forest Certification Association, has been accepted into the global PEFC certification programme.
It means the association can now work to develop a sustainable forest certification for New Zealand, based on existing standards.
Association chair Andrew McEwen says PEFC-certified forest products are in hot demand overseas, and this development will allow Kiwi producers to be more competitive globally.
