A contingent of 30 of our Defence Force is in Israel to remember the Battle of Beersheba.
The battle was part Sinai-Palestine campaign between 1916 and 18, which 10,000 Kiwis took part in.
Lieutenant Colonel Hamish Gibbons said it's often one of the forgotten campaigns.
He said most New Zealanders know about Gallipoli and the Western Front, but not that many know about the Sinai-Palestine campaign.
"There's about 30 of us where in Beersheba, Isreal to commemorate and honour those who fought in this campaign and remember their sacrifice," he said.
Gibbons said eight New Zealanders died in the Battle of Beersheba, but 543 died in the entire Sinai-Palestine campaign.
Due to the delays in setting up the Government, the party leaders will not be attending.
Governor-General Dame Patsy Reddy will be representing the Government.Â
