The heightened global terror threat won't put John Key off attending the G20 meeting in Brisbane next month.

The London bombings took place during the 2005 meeting in Scotland, while other G20s have drawn bomb scares and protests.

But despite the growing profile of terrorist group ISIS - and this week's attacks in Canada - John Key says he has no personal concerns about attending.

"Yes those environments are always the place where there's a threat of a risk.

"I think you also have to say they're the environments where a lot of concentration goes into making sure that they're as safe as they possibly can be."

He admits there's a heightened risk around the meeting, but he's not worried.

"The reality for the local leaders is that there's always an inherent degree of risk in my job. But equally I've had the benefit that so many people don't have, of protection and people looking at what's happening around me, so I don't feel at all threatened by that."
