Kauri dieback concerns spread to Northland

Kauri dieback is a different beast in Northland.

Northland Regional Council biosecurity officer Pete Graham says they share the concerns of those trying to stop the disease in Auckland's Waitakere Ranges.

A rahui to prohibit people from the ranges is coming in place today at 7am.

But Mr Graham said in Northland they're dealing with more than 20 infected sites which are on private land.

"So the idea of a rahui wouldn't really work. When we're working with those land owners on private land we come up with a management plan".

Graham said they're working with private landowners to contain the tree disease.

"But for a disease that's getting into our trees, we haven't got a method of curing any trees with it, so a spread is a huge worry to us"

Mr Graham said banning people from Northland's public land is a matter for DOC.
