The Justice Minister will meet with judges in Christchurch today to hear their concerns around new restorative justice laws.

They say the new laws are causing a backlog in the court system.

Before December, cases were only referred for restorative justice at a judge's discretion.

But since then, every case with a guilty plea and an identifiable victim must be passed on.

Amy Adams says the law expansion's gone reasonably well, but realises in some areas the roll out hasn't been smooth.

She wants to understand the problems judges are facing.
