Rotorua District Court Judge James Weir has died suddenly in his home after falling through a glass door.

Judge Weir was found dead by his daughter yesterday.

Rotorua police say there is nothing at this stage to indicate the death is suspicious, but a post mortem will be carried out to determine cause of death.

Bay of Plenty Coroner Dr Wallace Bain says it appears Judge Weir probably had several mini-strokes in the past few days, which weren't recognised as such.

His preliminary view is that the judge had another one which caused him to fall through a glass door.
