Police are investigating the sudden death of a four-year-old girl in Hamilton.

Emergency services were called to a house in the suburb of Nawton at around six o'clock last night.

Acting Detective Inspector Ross Patterson says they're conducting an investigation on behalf on the Coroner.

He says a post mortem examination will be carried out and it's too early to say what caused the young girl's death.
