The Transport Accident Investigation Committee is continuing its look into the helicopter crash on Thursday which took the life of married father in his 40s.
Chief investigator Tim Burfoot says day two of the investigation at the site near Waiouru will involve more scene and wreckage examinations.
The three investigators will also be preparing to move the wreckage back to Wellington once they've got all they need.
"It really depends how complex it is and how long it takes to them record everything at the site. The weather's always a factor and the logistics of air lifting wreckage out of a remote site we can never be sure on, but we will be getting it out of there as soon as we can."
Two other men were taken to hospital with serious injuries from the crash.
