Biosecurity and Customs officers are teaming up with the Navy in a bid to educate international yachties about biosecurity risks.
The HMNZS Rotoiti leaves Devonport today to begin a four day surveillance operation off the Northland coast.
Ministry of Primary Industries North Ports Manager, Sharon Tohovaka says MPI hasn't taken part in the operation for a few years, but recent fruit fly detections have prompted their involvement.
Ms Tohovaka says one possible fruit fly pathway is the arrival of international yachts, so they're looking to confirm their biosecurity measures are mitigating the risk.
