Vector is warning Auckland households and businesses could end up bearing a greater share of Transpower's electricity transmission costs.
It says it's advocating on behalf of Auckland consumers against the Electricity Authority's proposed transmission pricing options.
Vector says the base option would result in a 59% increase in transmission costs in Auckland.
That's $192 a year for the average customer, and the company says it would dilute significant price cuts it's made for the benefit of the Auckland region in recent years.
Vector says it's unfathomable that a generator located at the bottom of the South Island can supply energy into Auckland and not have to pay for transport.
