Updated 3.49pm: A horse truck has been pulled from a pond on Auckland's North Shore, but not all of the four-legged passengers made it.
Firefighters and a heavy-duty tow truck were called to the rural property on Dairy Flat Highway, after the horse truck crashed into a pond.
The driver feared it would sink.
East Coast Bays station officer Martyn Baker says the truck ploughed 80 metres downhill and into the water, when the woman driving it got out to close a gate.
"When we got there she was screaming, she just wanted to get the truck open to check her horses."
Martyn Baker says once the horse truck was winched onto flat ground the horses were easily freed.
One horse has been rescued, but the other suffered a broken leg and had to be put down.
