The NZTA, AA and police are all appealing to those heading away for the long weekend to take care.
The warnings come as the NZTA says an unprecedented increase in traffic has been taking to our roads in recent years.
Last year's Queens Birthday road toll ended at five, but authorities would like to see a repeat of 2013, which had no fatalities.

Drivers are advised to slow down, watch their following distances, take care when passing and taking corners and drive to conditions.
