Tourism operators are welcoming the return of competitive regional air routes in Hawke's Bay.

Jetstar is now flying between Napier and Auckland.

Tourism Hawke's Bay general manager, Annie Dundas said it will provide a major boost to the local industry and economy.

Ms Dundas said Tourism Hawke's Bay is working closely to ensure what the area has to offer is of value.  

"We're working on a number of other ideas and initiatives to got more visitors over the summer."

Ms Dundas said they already know the upcoming period is going to be busy, so they're looking ahead.  

"It's really January, February and beyond that that we're really focused on and trying to really highlight those weekends away in Hawke's Bay for that Auckland market."
