The Government has today opened the first 11 state houses in Auckland's Glenn Innes.
The two and four bedroom units replace the two houses that once stood on the site.
Another 21 houses will be built there by next year and by 2018 the Fenchurch development will see 400 houses built by 2018.
Housing Minister Nick Smith said the quality of state houses has never been so good.
He said over the past seven years 35 thousand state houses have been insulated compared with just three thousand in the nine years of the Labour Government.
