If you plan on being in Golden Bay this afternoon, you'd be forgiven if you wonder whether time travel's possible.

Collingwood RSA has planned a staged re-enactment of the Gallipoli landings on the shoreline to the left of the township.

President Barry Pomeroy says steam ships and soldiers will be used to help recreate the event, with talented actors assuming a variety of roles.

"A lot of them are school children. They're going to dress up as soldiers, and some of them will have weapons."

Pomeroy says for 40 minutes, the shoreline will be transformed into the Turkish peninsula.

"We will have no one appearing to be shot. All soldiers will advance towards the Turks through the smoke. The Turks will stand, and the last post will be sounded."

The disastrous campaign cost the lives of 2445 New Zealanders.

The re-enactment will take place at 2 30pm.

Meanwhile, a jam-packed day is on the cards for the Marlborough RSA.

A number of services will break out across the district this morning to commemorate today's centenary.

President John Forrest says this year they'll hold an additional service at the sounds soldiers' memorial in Torea Bay.

"There's always been a memorial there, and it's dedicated to the soldiers that didn't come back who actually lived out in the sounds."
