Labour MP Phil Goff says he's no closer to announcing his bid for the Auckland mayoralty.

He reportedly met with Orakei local board chair Desley Simpson, but has denied making any sort of pact for the deputy mayoralty.

Mr Goff said reports that he's doing deals already are speculative and untrue.

"I haven't made pacts with anybody over who might be deputy mayor. I haven't actually even announced my intentions with regard to the mayoralty."
