UPDATED 9.33am: A memorial trail bike ride has turned to tragedy, claiming the life of another young person.

A six-year-old girl has died in the event at Masterton, commemorating the life of Jayden Kilmister, a 15-year-old who died in 2009.

Masterton mayor Lyn Patterson says yesterday's death is extremely sad.

"A real tragedy. Our heart goes out to the families and to the organisers of the event.

"It's totally sad. It was a memorial trail ride they have every year in memory of a young person who had passed away who was an avid trail bike rider."
