Farmers on Waikato's Hauraki Plains are being urged to be careful where they put their stock if they are in the Piako River catchment.
Waikato Regional Council says there are concerns some riverside areas may still flood, despite an end to the heavy rain.
That's because much of the water has come down the hills west of the Plains, and is still making its way down the river system.
The Council's Hauraki and Coromandel manager Adam Munro said water levels are starting to drop, but it will be several days before the flooding recedes.
"If we can ask land owners and farmers in the area just to keep up with the news and to monitor river levels quite closely, they might want to do some stock movements accordingly."
Meanwhile, the Provincial President for Bay of Plenty Federated Farmers say the floods are devastating for farmers - but they were lucky it happened at the end of the season.
Darryl Jensen says the floods have "knocked the stuffing out of farmers" in the Eastern Bay of Plenty but they are bringing in teams to provide assistance.
"The Rural Support Trust is going to be called in, there may be a need there for the mental stress and strain that adverse events like this put on people."
Jensen said dairy farmers have been through tough times for the last three years and this is the latest "kick in the guts" to their lifestyle.
Anyone concerned about flooding on their property can call the council on 0800 800 401 through the weekend.
