Fire fighter fuming over parking ticket

Auckland Transport's in the gun again for what's being seen as its over-zealous ticketing activities.

First it upset an entire street in Orakei for ticketing cars parked on the footpath that had done so to allow free access to the narrow road.

Now a fire fighter is fuming after being ticketed for parking his truck at a bus stop while one of his crew dashed into a nearby bakery.

AT said he wasn't on official business.

But station officer Brett Goodhue said while he was technically in the wrong, it's very difficult to find a parking space for a fire engine in Dominion Road on a weekday.

He's appealed for some common sense, saying it's imperative crews stay close to the truck in case they have to dash off to an emergency.

He also points out the driver was at the wheel and could have moved if a bus had come along.
