The Property Investors Federation is questioning the rental price hike data of Trade Me Property.
Its latest figures show a 7.7 percent rise in rents in March to a record median high of $420 per week, with higher rents in Auckland and Canterbury.
But Federation executive officer Andrew King says more accurate statistics come from the Government Bond Centre.
He says its median rent price is $380, with the rise at five percent.
"And five percent although higher than the inflations rate is probably to be expected given there have been a lot of cost increases and there's a lot of demand at the moment."
