Labour believes our trading partners are watching closely, as more fruit flies are found in central Auckland.

So far 14 Queensland fruit flies have been found in the Grey Lynn containment zone.

Biosecurity spokesman Damien O'Connor says every time the number goes up it's a worry.

He says the key point will be when other countries become concerned to the point we lose our status as fruit-fly free.

O'Connor says every time another one is found, it's a concern.

"If they are a female, if there are any more eggs laid then clearly we've got to start chasing a bigger area."
