A Hamilton dairy worker has been taken to hospital after being struck in the head with a machete this morning.
The worker, who was in the shop on his own at the time, sustained significant hand and head wounds and has a fractured skull. He is being treated at Waikato Hospital.

The worker was working at Emm Jay Dairy on the corner of Brookfield and Grey Streets in Hamilton East this morning when two masked males entered the shop at about 8.30am.
They struck the worker on his hands using a machete. They were also armed with an axe.
The two robbers then fled the store with cigarettes and cash before fleeing in a stolen silver Mazda Familia with the registration FEP218. The vehicle headed south.

"The victim suffered significant wounds to his head and hands and was transported to Waikato Hospital for medical assistance," police said.
Police are investigating and want to hear from anyone who was near the dairy who may have seen the robbers leave the store or spotted the getaway car.
