A new friend for Auckland Zoo's elephant Burma has begun a roundabout journey to New Zealand.
Eight-year-old Asian elephant Anjalee is coming here from an overcrowded Sri Lankan elephant orphanage.
She's arrived on a flight from Colombo this morning, and is being transferred to quarantine in Niue by Defence Force Hercules.
Anjalee will stay in Niue for 90 days.
Auckland Zoo director Jonathan Wilcken says she's a lovely animal and will be a great companion for 32-year-old Burma.
