New Zealand First wants a moratorium on aerial drops of 1080, after the death of a dog in the Hunua Ranges.
Penelope Young said a vet has confirmed her pet Lulu died as a result of the poison.
Primary industries spokesman Richard Prosser said there's been talk of finding alternatives to 1080 for a long time.
"While 1080 is available to be used it will be used, and there will not be sufficient emphasis or resourcing put into developing other methods and alternative poisons. "
