An Auckland woman says 1080 poison has been found in the stomach of her pet dog which died after the Auckland Council's massive anti-possum 1080 drop in the Hunua Ranges.
Penelope Young says a vet has confirmed the diagnosis of 1080 poisoning.
She said despite their vigilance, Lulu died three weeks after the poison drop, after playing outside near a river on their property.
A post mortem revealed Lulu had eaten a possum.
"Perhaps he found a bit of dead rotting carcass and chewed on it."
Penelope Young says if she'd been warned possum carcasses could have floated down the river, she would have been even more vigilant.
