Cyclists are thrilled they haven't been forgotten in a major transport cash injection.

Three hundred million dollars has been put aside for cycleways, out of a 38.7 billion-dollar transport package for the country for the next ten years.

Auckland Cycle Action spokesperson Barbara Cuthbert says it will have a major impact, not just for commuters.

She says families often enjoy the chance to get out on their bikes together - but only if they have the safety of a cycleway.
