Crusaders' fans will flock to the Christchurch CBD this afternoon for a parade announced just last night.

Coach Scott Robertson and captain Sam Whitelock will speak at the reception and Mayor Lianne Dalziel will congratulate the team on behalf of the city at 4pm.

The winning Super Rugby team will finish the celebrations outside the Art Gallery, just as Team New Zealand did in the America's Cup parade last month.

Central City Ward Councillor Deon Swiggs said last month's parade in the sleet was a challenge.

"Let's just hope the weather can be nice because it was very cold."

Swiggs said the last time the team won was before the earthquakes, so it will be great to have them back in the new CBD.

"As I said yeah it brings up together and enthusiasm about our city, about who we are as a people."
