The Wellington City Council is making it clear it doesn't really want cars in the city centre.
It is revisiting a proposal from four years ago, to lower the speed limit in the CBD from 50 to 30 kilometres per hour.
The plan was rejected back then, by one vote.
Councillor Chris Calvi-Freeman told Heather du Plessis-Allan they would prefer drivers to stay out of the city centre if possible.
"They are welcome in the city centre if they have got a park or something to do there, but we would rather people went round the outside of the city centre if they are going from one end of the city to the other."
Calvi-Freeman says they want to send a message to anyone who comes into the city, on any form of transport.
"You're in a place where people mix, mingle, where people live, where people walk and enjoy the city centre. It is a place for people more than it is a place for cars."
