A popular clothing chain has become the first company to do away with tea breaks.
First Union claims Australia-based Cotton On is trying to invoke the contentious new employment laws, which have done away with compulsory breaks for all workers.
The union says Cotton On has entered a last-minute clause in collective agreement negotiations to strip workers of their contracted meal and tea breaks.
Organiser Robert Reid says strike action now looks likely.
Cotton On has 80 stores across New Zealand, including the Rubi Shoes, Typo and Supre brands.
