Hurimoana Dennis says he and Sergeant Vaughan Perry are proud Maori officers who care too much.
Both police officers have been found not guilty of kidnapping a teenage boy to end a young love affair.
Inspector Hurimoana Dennis and Sergeant Vaughan Perry have been on trial in the High Court at Auckland for the past two weeks.
Speaking outside court Inspector Hurimoana Dennis says it's been an emotional time and he maintains he did what was right.
"My actions or my involvement with this investigation and this issue can best be described as practical common sense, big picture policing with a bit of heart."
