The man behind the change to Monday-ise public holidays is thrilled the first one has fallen on ANZAC weekend.
The law change went through two years ago, but it's taken until now for a weekend public holiday to crop up.
Bill sponsor David Clark says he'll be taking time out to see friends and family, and recommends others do the same.
"This is the first time since the Bill was drawn in early 2012 that I get to see the fruits of my labours and to get to celebrate with others."
Clark says it's fitting the first Monday-ised holiday is the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.
"I am excited about the fact that people can spend time with friends and family enjoying the freedoms the ANZACs fought for."
