Talk of three foreigners moving into a $6 million dollar home usually stirs up talk of overseas speculation, but Christchurch's newest residents are promising to actually boost the economy.
Christchurch's Orana Park has become home to New Zealand's first gorillas, and they're ready to meet the public.Â
The city's just welcomed Fataki, Fuzu and Mahali; three Silverback Gorillas that have a combined weight of almost 400 kilos.
CEO Lynn Anderson thinks the three boys will soon become the park's most popular attraction.
"Gorillas are just such a charismatic species and it's a real privilege to have them here and I know that the entire community is going to love them very much."
So far Anderson reports the gorillas seem pleased with their pricey new pad.
"They all headed right down the end of the new amazing habitat and they climbed the highest platform there was and took a good look across the vista all over the park which was a really moving experience."
Lynn Anderson expects the Gorillas will not only be a massive draw card for the park, but Christchurch as well.
