In a New Zealand first, Road Accident Remembrance Day will be held in Christchurch this weekend.
The Road Traffic Accident Trauma Charitable Trust is organising the event, that focuses around supporting people affected by an accident.
Founder Sarah Dean said that includes the victims, hospital staff, witnesses and police officers attending the scene.
"When they attend their road accident i think they underestimate the importance that they play to the families [and] to the victims as well," she said.
Ms Dean dreams to make it a national event, and said she's already had discussions in terms of making it happen in two other cities.
She's lucky to be alive after a serious accident in her 20s and said the support post-accident is crucial.
"When I was going through my rehabilitation stage, I didn't really feel like I had anyone to talk to," she said.
The event will be held tomorrow at 10am, at North Hagley Park.
