A child hit by a car in Auckland is in a serious but stable condition in Starship Hospital.

The eight-year-old was struck by a vehicle on Titirangi Road in New Lynn yesterday morning.

She was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police have spoken to the 62-year-old female driver of the car.

They say the investigation into the crash is ongoing and it will be several weeks before any decision will be made around charges.
