The man who raped and murdered Blessie Gotingco has lost a bid for permanent name suppression.

However, due to legal reasons his name has been prohibited from publishing.

The 28-year-old man was found guilty in May of raping and killing Mrs Gotingco, a mother of three, on Auckland's North Shore.

While the judge who oversaw that case ruled there was no reason for name suppression to continue, the defendant's lawyers appealed that decision.

The appeal has been dismissed, and the Court of Appeal said High Court's interim name suppression order will continue.

The reasons for the decision are suppressed.

Mrs Gotingco's family has expressed disappointment that the man cannot be named.

They said from the moment Mrs Gotingco went missing, her identity and the heinous details of her suffering have made international headlines.

They are looking forward to open and transparent justice being delivered in the near future.
