It's hoped keeping better track of the food we produce will stop New Zealand being crippled by another health scare.
The Dairy Traceability Working Group was put together after Fonterra's false alarm over botulism contamination.
Food Safety Minister Jo Goodhew says it's now recommended better tracing is put in place across all food sectors, and the government's considering it.
"We send over $29 billion worth of food overseas each year and of course that's a big earner for New Zealand."
